Exodus Cruises welcomes our guests to begin their journey through the Jewish Heritage of Greece with a fascinating Athens Tour.
The centre of Athens represents a harmonious blend of past and present. The city’s legacy of ancient monuments plays a leading role in the centuries-old history of Athens; today, a vibrant European capital.
The tour begins with visits to the ancient landmarks of the city centre, highlighted by the Acropolis, combined with insights into Greece’s modern history and how it has affected Jewish presence in Athens.
A panoramic view of the city center includes visits to the Panathenaic Stadium, Zappeion Hall, The Maximos Mansion, now the official seat of the Greek Prime Minister. The Temple of Zeus, Statue of Alexander, as well as the Greek Parliament, guarded by its world-famous Presidential Guards, The Evzones in Constitution Square, in the heart of the city.
The Jewish Museum is the highpoint of the tour where visitors will discover the rich history of the Jewish community throughout all regions of Greece, including costumes, religious artifacts, documents and films.
After an absorbing 2-3 hours at the Jewish Museum, the tour continues with visits to Athens synagogues and memorials. Lunch will then be offered at a colourful Greek taverna, after which guests will be driven by coach to Zea Marina, Piraeus, to board their ship for a welcome drink prior to sailing at around 4 pm.
